As a Leafs and Raptors fan this is great news. It has been clear for some time that the current majority owners, The Ontario Teachers Pension Plan didn't care much about winning as long they were making a certain amount of money every year. Being under the Rogers umbrella should change that.
The OTPP just needed good merchandise sales and gate receipts and the Maple Leafs brand is good enough to provide good numbers there even when the team isn't performing well. Rogers will need the team to do well in order to improve their TV numbers. They have more of an incentive in making sure that the team performs well.
By the way, did you guys watch Jeopardy last night? The "Final Jeopardy" question was Maple Leafs related.
