You just know something like that will be a touchy subject at Fox "News" Channel. I know this is Fox and this Steve Doocy we are talking about here, but is it really that hard to do some research before you go into an interview and make a fool out of yourself? I saw this video posted on my cousin Saad's facebook page. By the way, everyone should go check out his blog "Chill Yo Islam Yo."
Would it really have been that difficult for someone at Fox to do a little research on the event and realize that the event has been around since BEFORE 9/11. Had he or someone else done so they would have come across this little passage in the press release from the Islamic Circle of North America announcing the event:
Over the years, Muslim Family Day has become a staple in the American Muslim community. The event has attracted over 100,000 in the past two years alone. Muslim Family Day was first held in 2000 at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ. The tragic events of September 11th, which resulted in the loss of thousands of innocent lives, also affected this event directly. Tariq Amanullah, the chief organizer of Muslim Family Day, worked on the 96th floor of World Trade Center, Tower 2, and was a victim of the attacks. Through its various endeavors, ICNA honors his memory of building bridges between communitiesThis event has received opposition from groups like "Americans against Hate". The group name is quiet humorous because one look at the group's website makes it clear that the group's primary purpose seems to be spreading hatred. Go figure. This anchor on Fox briefly mentions that the event predates 9/11 but doesn't follow up at all when this man dodges the question.
The date happens to be around 9/11 but anyone with half a brain can understand that it is not to exploit 9/11. It revolves around the end of Ramadan (which is at different every year since the Islamic Calendar is based off the lunar calendar) so it is on a different date every year. It is hilarious to note that the very people who seem to be opposing this event are the same people actually exploiting 9/11 with Glenn Beck's 912 Project.
The event has been covered by the mainstream media in the past. It should be noted that the park is closed to the public on weekdays during September (unless you are part of a specific group that rented it out for the day) so it's not like anyone is being excluded here. You can find out more information about when it is coming to your local Six Flags at the event's website.
